For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a tiny dream tucked away — to create and publish a storybook of my own. But like many dreams, it kept getting pushed aside by the busy rhythm of life… until this summer. This time, not only did I get the chance to make it happen, but I also found the best creative partners — my three sons! 💛
With summer approaching, I started thinking: what kind of project could I plan for the kids that would be fun, meaningful, and achievable? So I said to my 11-year-old AJ, “How about we make an eBook together this summer? We can put it online for people to read — maybe even try selling our very first book!”
He was intrigued — it felt new and exciting to him, and for me, it was the perfect chance to experiment, learn, and do something we’ve never done before.
But I didn’t want it to be a typical “mom-made” project. I wanted this to be genuinely created from a child’s perspective, with their ideas, their choices, and their voices. So I invited my youngest, 5-year-old Chi Chi, to join the entire process — from choosing the theme, picking the characters, selecting images, to visualising the scenes.
Chi Chi made all the key decisions, while I simply guided him and handled the technical side of putting together the actual eBook.
With the help of AI, we finished our very first children’s eBook in just two hours.
It may be a small project, but to us, it’s a big milestone — a precious parent-child memory, and a spark of encouragement to keep creating.
The book is a sweet and simple English story about “Why Do Stars Twinkle?”
We wrapped the science in a fun storytelling style that’s easy for young readers to understand, with cute visuals and playful vibes — perfect for children aged 3 to 7.
And the best part? Chi Chi was the Creative Director for the entire book!
He took the job very seriously, carefully comparing star images and choosing only the cutest ones. I was just the design assistant 😂
I’ve always believed kids are full of creativity — all they need is for us to slow down, sit beside them, and let them try. That’s when you’ll realise:
Creating a children’s book together is way more doable (and magical!) than you might think.
This eBook is our little “starter project” for the summer, and one of the most meaningful things we’ve created as a family so far.
I hope this experience continues to spark creativity in each of my boys, and that step by step, we’ll build more stories — told through the eyes of little dreamers like Chi Chi. 💛
